    Client Situation

    Global Manufacturer and Supplier of Herbs and Spices sought assistance with conducting a study to uncover opportunities to improve their ten month long strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting processes.

    Solution Provided

    • Documented current activities of Client’s employees, based on level of involvement with budgeting, planning,  forecasting and reporting
    • Interviewed more than 50 cross functional personnel in Client’s Corporate Finance, Consumer and Industrial Divisions in North America and Europe to obtain a detailed understanding of the bottlenecks and challenges to better planning and forecasting
    • Organized findings from the interviews against hypothesis developed at the start of the engagement providing critical insights as to root causes of process delays, redundancies and inefficiencies

    • Developed advanced “Design Flow” diagrams to record People, Process, Technology and Strategy activities,
    • Identified primary root causes of the long budgeting process buried in Sales and Operations Planning and Pricing processes

    Client Situation

    The client had successfully managed parts of the their working capital but had not achieved a significant inventory reduction

    In addition, Client had been attempting to balance supply and demand across their business with little success to date

    Solution Provided

    • Primary objective was to benchmark the business against similar companies to establish potential benefit targets and drivers
    • Established key performance issues against the drivers and identify approaches to address those issues
    • Determined the potential benefits expected from executing the approaches and develop a plan for their implementation
    • Assisted in the program management of the implementation phase
    • Design and implement of a leading practice Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) approach

    Results

    • Inventory reduction of 27 % across raw materials, WIP and finished goods
    • Much improved understanding of the impact of all activities along the supply chain on working capital
